Scripture Focus: Ephesians 2:20

“…built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

Ancient builders began with a cornerstone; single, carefully placed that determined the alignment and strength of the entire structure. If a poorly selected or placed stone were used, the entire structure would be suspect. Paul says Jesus fills that role in your life.

Interpretation

Paul pictures God’s people as a spiritual temple resting on the revelation of Scripture with Christ as the key, aligning stone. Everything in the structure depends on Him. This metaphor is built upon the prophecy of Isaiah 28:16, identifying Jesus as the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. If a cornerstone is misaligned, the whole building leans. When Christ is centered as the cornerstone, life gains coherence, stability, and unity.

Contemporary Relevance

As you begin this journey, remember that every belief, practice, and decision must align with Jesus. He is not one important stone among many — He is the measure by which everything else is formed. Let Him set the angles of your life. Let Him steady what feels unstable, and straighten what is crooked. Let Him bring unity where things feel fractured. Building a life upon him will provide more security than building on any other foundation this world offers.
