Completely Like Christ

Scripture Focus: Ephesians 4:13-14

“…until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves…” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

The Christian life is not static — it is a journey toward maturity measured not by achievement but by likeness to Christ. Many believe faith is about beginnings, yet Paul reminds us it is about growth, unity, and steady formation. To be “completely like Christ” is the destination to which grace steadily draws us.

Interpretation

Paul envisions the Church growing together into “the unity of the faith,” meaning a shared trust and deep knowledge of Christ that shapes collective identity. This maturity is communal, not private—it happens as the body learns to reflect one Head, growing up into His fullness. The “full measure of Christ” describes a spiritual completeness shaped by His character, wisdom, and love. In contrast, immaturity leaves believers unstable — easily persuaded by trends, emotions, or teachings that lack truth. The maturity Paul describes is steadiness born from deeply knowing the Savior.

Contemporary Relevance

In our world of constant change and persuasive voices, believers still risk being “tossed by the waves” of shifting culture. But growth in Christlike maturity anchors us in truth and strengthens our unity. This means intentionally learning Christ’s mind through Scripture, submitting our desires to His will, and growing with others in grace. A mature believer does not merely avoid deception — they reflect Jesus in stability, discernment, and love.
