Scripture Focus: 2 Timothy 3:16–17

“All Scripture is God-breathed… so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

Trying to repair something with the wrong tools is frustrating. But when you have exactly what you need, the work becomes purposeful and possible. Scripture equips us with the right tools in that same way.

Interpretation

2 Timothy 3:16-17 declares that all Scripture is God-breathed, meaning it originates from God's own Spirit, and equips believers through teaching truth, rebuking error, correcting missteps, and training in righteous living. This multifaceted work of the Bible prepares the "servant of God" — any faithful follower — for complete maturity, furnishing them with everything needed to conduct good works in daily life and service. In a world of challenges and false ideas, Scripture's equipping function ensures believers lack nothing to live out God's calling effectively, from personal holiness to sharing the gospel.

Contemporary Relevance

Modern churches often trust programs, personalities, or innovative strategies. Those may be useful, but only Scripture forms the character needed for God’s purposes. I hear of churches that focus more on promoting political ideology or addressing the news of the day than they do consulting and teaching the word of God. God’s Word equips you for real obedience, real ministry, and real compassion in everyday life. It prepares you to serve in your home, workplace, church, and community with Christlike depth.

Quote of the Day

“The promises of God are, like Himself, faithful and unchanging.” — John Wesley
