Scripture Focus: Revelation 21:5

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

Picture the most broken corner of your life or world. Now hear God say, without hesitation: I am making everything new. This is not a patch on brokenness; it is the promise of total victory where every tear, every injustice, and every grave gives way to a flawless new creation. When chaos feels final, God's word declares the end from the beginning: renewal triumphs.

Interpretation

The One on the throne—God Himself—declares renewal as His final word. Revelation 21:5 captures the triumphant voice of God from the throne declaring, “Behold, I am making all things new,” marking the climactic victory of divine restoration over the brokenness of sin and death in a renewed creation. “I am making” is present-active: the renewal has begun and will continue until completed. “New” means new in quality — restored, healed, transformed — not discarded and replaced. The verse underscores that God's victory is not mere preservation of an elect few but a transformative re-creation where every tear is wiped away, inviting all to the banquet of renewal through the Lamb's universal atonement.  This is the climax of redemption: evil erased, death undone, creation renewed, and God dwelling fully with His people.

Contemporary Relevance

Hope is not denial of what is broken; it is confidence in who God is. He is already renewing hearts, restoring relationships, and healing communities through the Spirit’s work in His church. Every act of love, justice, mercy, and faithfulness becomes a preview of the world to come. You live now in the direction the story is going.
