God Will Get It Done

Scripture Focus: Philippians 1:6

“…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

When you start a project, you want to finish it. God is the same — He always completes the work He begins.

Interpretation

Philippians 1:6 shows Paul expressing confident assurance that the God who began a saving work in the believers at Philippi will certainly carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. The “good work” refers first to God’s initiating grace in bringing them to faith through the gospel, and then to his ongoing work of shaping their character and service. Paul’s confidence does not rest in their strength or consistency, but in God’s own faithfulness and power as the expert builder of their Christian life. The phrase “until the day of Christ Jesus” lifts their eyes to the future, emphasizing that God’s project in them spans their whole life and will not be finished until Christ returns and they are fully perfected in him.

Contemporary Relevance

God himself is carrying your spiritual growth, not leaving you to finish the journey in your own strength. In seasons of weakness, failure, or delay, this verse reminds us that the God who started his saving work will faithfully keep shaping our character and faith until Christ returns. You are not a half-finished project — God is faithfully shaping you. Even when you feel stuck, discouraged, or tired, God continues His work within you. Sanctification rests not on your ability to stay strong but on God’s commitment to finish what He started. Perseverance is possible because God perseveres with us.
