Scripture Focus: John 1:14
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Some messages are too important to send from a distance. You need to pass on the news face-to-face. When love matters most, you show up in person. That is exactly what God did — He came close in Jesus.
Interpretation
John introduces Jesus as the eternal Word — God’s self-expression — and then makes a startling claim: that Jesus is God’s Word made flesh — God’s own self-expression taking on human form and living among us. This means Jesus is not just a messenger but God’s visible presence, fully divine and fully human, showing us what God is like. The verse points out that through Jesus, people saw God’s glory, the unique and perfect reflection of the Father’s grace and truth. Jesus embodies God’s truth and love in a way that can be seen and touched, inviting us to know God personally through his life and actions. This profound truth shows that God’s communication to humanity is not distant or abstract but deeply personal and relational.
Contemporary Relevance
Scripture does not merely teach ideas about God; it leads you to the God who stepped into the messiness of human life. Jesus “pitched His tent” with us, showing that God desires a real relationship, not distant admiration. If you want to know what God is like and have an authentic relationship with him, you have to look at Jesus; and the only way that we can do that is through the eyes of Scripture. The Bible becomes the pathway into this living connection — guiding you into the presence of the One who knows you, loves you, and invites you into His redemptive work.
Quote of the Day
“In Jesus, God has come all the way down to meet us where we truly live.” — Fleming Rutledge
