Scripture Focus: Revelation 21:4

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

Every tear that ever fell will one day be remembered no more. The long nights of grief and the ache of loneliness will vanish in the radiant light of God’s eternal presence. Heaven is not simply a better version of what we know — it is the undoing of everything that ever wounded creation.

Interpretation

Revelation 21:4 unveils the consummation of God’s redemptive plan: the full reversal of the Fall and its consequences. “The old order” represents the present world broken by sin — where decay, disease, and death reign. But in the new creation, God Himself acts tenderly, personally wiping away tears, as if to say that pain will no longer have a place in His renewed cosmos. The eradication of sorrow is not symbolic but complete; the vocabulary of suffering will no longer exist. Death, once humanity’s final enemy, is swallowed up in victory through the Lamb who was slain. Heaven, then, is not just future consolation but the dawning of perfected communion with the One who makes all things new.

Contemporary Relevance

In a world still marked by loss, hearts crave this promise more than ever. Every diagnosis, funeral, and moment of isolation points us toward the horizon of resurrection hope. When the people of God fix their eyes on this coming reality, grief does not disappear — but it is transformed by trust. We live differently now, knowing that our tears are temporary and our hope eternal. Let every sigh become a prayer for the Day when God Himself will restore all things.

Quote of the Day

“The best of this life is but the shadow of better things to come.” — Jonathon Edwards

Reflection Question

How might your perspective on present suffering change if you honestly believed every sorrow would one day be personally wiped away by God’s hand?

Prayer Prompt

Ask God to fix your eyes on the promise of restored creation, where tears finally cease.
