Scripture Focus: Luke 24:27
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Ever watch a movie where the ending suddenly makes every earlier scene click? That is what happens on the Emmaus Road. Jesus does not just comfort the disciples — He helps them see the whole story clearly.
Interpretation
Luke 24:27 shows the risen Jesus gently correcting two confused disciples by taking them back through the whole Old Testament and showing that its true storyline points to his suffering and glory. Walking with them on the road, he starts “with Moses” (the first five books) and goes on “through all the prophets,” treating Scripture as a unified witness that speaks about the Messiah. He does not invent a new meaning but “explains” or interprets what was already there, uncovering how the promises, patterns, and prophecies had always been preparing for his death and resurrection. This verse reveals that Jesus himself is the key for understanding the Scriptures rightly, and that when the Bible is read in light of him, its scattered pieces come together into a coherent testimony about God’s saving plan.
Contemporary Relevance
If Scripture is going to make sense to you, you have to read it as God’s unfolding story that reaches its climax in Jesus. That means we do not treat the Bible like a verse-bank for quick inspiration. It is not even meant to be a manual for Christian living primarily. We learn to see the long arc: God forming a people, rescuing the world through the Messiah, and moving creation toward renewal. When you interpret through Jesus, your faith is grounded in something bigger than self-help — it is rooted in God’s redeeming purpose for the world.
Quote of the Day
“The scriptures tell a story that reaches its climax in Jesus but encompasses the hopes and cries of all God’s people.” — Esau McCaulley
Reflection Question
When you read the Old Testament, do you tend to focus on inspirational stories of Bible “heroes”, or do you look for God’s unfolding story that points to a climax in Jesus?
Prayer Prompt
Ask Jesus to open your eyes, helping you see Him clearly in the whole story of Scripture.
