Psalm 119:105 pictures God’s word as a lamp held close to the feet, giving just enough light for the next steps, and as a steady light shining on the whole path ahead. In the psalm’s context, “your word” refers to God’s revealed instruction—his promises, commands, and testimonies—which the psalmist treats as his dependable guide in a world that is often dark and confusing. The imagery suggests that without this divine light, the traveler would stumble, lose direction, or miss the safe way altogether.
