The Verdict Is In

Scripture Focus: John 5:24

“... whoever hears my word and believes him who sent men has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” (NIV)

Devotional Thought

The courtroom has fallen silent. The evidence has been presented, the Judge rises, and the verdict is read — it is already decided. For the believer in Christ, the astonishing truth is this: the verdict came before the end of the trial.  

Interpretation

Jesus speaks with the authority of both Judge and Savior. He declares that all who hear His word and believe in the Father’s sending have already crossed the great divide between death and life. This is not a future prospect but a present reality — “has passed” marks a completed transfer of standing before God. The one who believes no longer faces condemnation, because Christ has borne that judgment completely. The Gospel, then, is not a promise waiting for proof, but a verdict already declared over the believer.

Contemporary Relevance

The case is closed. No accusation, failure, or fear can reopen what heaven has sealed. Our assurance does not rest on tomorrow’s performance but on yesterday’s ruling at the cross. Live today, then, not as one awaiting trial, but as one walking in the freedom of the final verdict — “no condemnation.” To accept this truth is to trade fear for freedom and guilt for grace. When doubts whisper, remember — your case is closed, and the Judge Himself has declared you alive forevermore.
