Scripture Focus: 2 Corinthians 3:18
“…being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory…” (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Real change can feel slow, like watching a seed grow underground. But the Spirit often does His deepest work over time.
Interpretation
Paul speaks beautifully about the Christian journey of transformation, where believers, with uncovered faces, behold the glory of the Lord and are gradually changed into His image, moving from one degree of glory to the next. This passage speaks of us being changed through an encounter with the presence of God, as was true of Moses when he would be in God’s presence and the brilliance of that encounter was burnt into Moses face so that he needed to wear a veil to shield the radiant glow. As Moses took on the goal of God’s glory, Paul says we do the same. This transformation is a dynamic, ongoing process empowered by the Spirit of God, reshaping us more and more into the likeness of Christ. It emphasizes that spiritual growth is progressive and continuous, not instantaneous, and involves growing closer to God's glory as we respond in faith and cooperation with His Spirit. This verse reflects a hopeful view of sanctification, where believers are steadily renewed and perfected in character until they fully reflect Christ’s glory.
Contemporary Relevance
We become like what we keep looking at. If our attention is fixed on anxiety, outrage, or success, those things shape us. But when we turn toward Jesus — through Scripture, worship, prayer, service, and community — the Spirit quietly reorders our desires and habits. Be patient with the process. Slow transformation is still real transformation.
