Scripture Focus: Psalm 19:7
“The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul…” (NIV)
Devotional Thought
A cold drink on a breathless, sweltering day can revive your whole body. God’s Word does that for your soul—it lifts burdens, renews hope, and brings clarity where confusion once reigned.
Interpretation
Psalm 19:7 teaches that the Lord’s “law” (his revealed instruction) is complete and without deficiency, fully sufficient as the standard by which God’s people are to know him and his will. When the verse says this law “restores” or “refreshes” the soul, it portrays God’s word as actively bringing a person back from spiritual weariness, confusion, or straying into a renewed, stable inner life before God. Calling God’s revelation his “testimony” highlights that Scripture is God’s own reliable witness about who he is and what he requires, something that can be fully trusted in contrast to shifting human opinions. The “simple” are those who are inexperienced and easily influenced, and the verse promises that God’s trustworthy word gives them real wisdom, enabling even ordinary believers to live skillfully in reverent obedience.
Contemporary Relevance
We often come to Scripture for quick answers, but God uses it to bring deep renewal. For people learning to live as citizens of God’s future world, the Bible is a tool of transformation — reshaping desires, mending broken places, and restoring inner strength. When life feels chaotic, Scripture becomes a place of recalibration, lifting your soul into God’s steadying presence.
Quote of the Day
“The Word of God is a sword that never grows dull and a seed that never fails to bear fruit.” — Charles Spurgeon
